Jungle Disk WHS beta withdrawn

We’ve temporarily removed the beta plugin of Jungle Disk for Windows Home Server from the Jungle Disk site. We’re in the process of developing an entirely new backup product for Windows Home Server and other NAS devices and we hope to have a beta available in the near future. In order to reduce confusion when the new product comes out we’ve decided to go ahead and take down the WHS-only beta at this time.

Note that this does NOT affect existing users of the Jungle Disk WHS plugin in any way. You can continue using it as-is for as long as you’d like. If your WHS happens to fail and you need to re-install the plugin to restore your files, please contact our support team and they’ll be happy to provide the download.

I really hope the new software will function as a WHS add-on, just like the old beta did. That beta spftware has been running problem-free for a long time, and is an excellent, integrated solution for WHS. Please don’t make the new software so generic that it no longer runs within the WHS control panel. Thanks!!

Will one of the supported NAS devices be the Netgear Readynas series? if so, please tell me you are doing both a Sparc and x86 version to support all Readynas models. Readynas Vault is a RIPOFF!

A QNAP QPKG release would be awesome. I love my TS-509, but I’d like the ability to back up certain directories to Amazon S3 via Jungle Disk.

Please, please keep it as a WHS add-in.

My Jungle Disk Home Server add-in has been running trouble-free for the past year and half (literally would forget about it if it wasn’t for the bills from amazon). That is, up until this today. It appears that it’s trying to contact http://services.jungledisk.com/ which is returning HTTP 403 (Forbidden) at the moment.

I would give you my credit card today and pay for the beta *as is* – please, please keep this thing around.

@David – we haven’t made any changes that would affect the WHS plugin. Are you still seeing the issue? If so, please contact support with the full error message.

@Jungle Dave Nice. A QNAP package would complete my backup needs.

about when can we expect a NAS package?

QNAP plugin – then Synology – would be ideal; we have these running at multiple customer sites. Personally, I wouldn’t waste time too much time on ReadyNAS – they already have the ‘readynas vault’ co-op system/co-op with ‘Elephant Drive’; be happy to beta test & feed back on your QNAP plugin!

Will there be a Thecus N5200 jungledisk module ? It would complete the awesome thecus nas boxes.

Doh! I (and my Boss) were both going to sign up for this TODAY. (One day after the beta was withdrawn!) Are there going to be ANY exceptions to this withdrawn beta? We are trying to evaluate this solution as a standard off-site backup method for WHS servers, which we’re hoping to recommend to a number of C-level execs and MDs at our clients.

If you search the Readynas forums you’ll see a few threads discussing their expensive Vault service and the need for an alternative. Hope JD for Readynas is coming soon…

    Here’s one example:

    Scott -

Thanks for the info. I’ve looked at a few other and I’m testing another service with “Vault” in the title and their pricing is good, but their agent is so incredibly stupid, it’s beyond words. Don’t get me wrong, it appears to work well, but you can’t exclude file types or folders. And you can only set it to run all day long or during certain hours and set a threshold for that time. So you can’t, for example, let it take 40% of your bandwidth during the day and 100% at night. And since it wants to take entire shares, it wastes more storage and jacks up the price.

That’s one of the reasons I was interested in something like this.

What’s the latest with a new Jungle Disc supported back up solution for WHS? Like many other users, I very much need a comprehensive online backup solution that won’t break the bank, especially for protection of our important family videos, photos and financial data that is currently stored on our WHS.

Right now I’m resorting to making manual backups of key files and storing the drives in a safe. This is a tedious process and does not catch changed data quickly, not to mention the hassles of recovering from a disaster with data stored in this fashion.

If nothing else, please make the add-in available again even if it is unsupported.

Would it be possible to have an update from the development team on the replacement product with expected release date?. Can I also ask if it will have the option to segregate certain data to be backed up locally to another location such as a USB drive instead of on the cloud to keep costs down.

    Thanks

It’s not clear to me whether the latest server release will function as an add-in to WHS. Like Jason asked a month ago – what’s the latest with a new Jungle Disc supported back up solution for WHS?

  19. Jungle Dave said,

No, the Server Edition is not designed for use with WHS. We are still working on a new home server product which will include WHS.

If there’s any more info you can share on ETA for this product, that would be great. I just picked up a HP 495, and I want to use an addin to do online backup. I’ve been using JD on my Mac for a couple years, and have been extremely happy with it. I look forward to seeing your solution for WHS users.

I’m relieved that a WHS product is still in the works. From previous lack of activity it appeared that this was deader than disco.

Any further news on a WHS version? I’ve just bought a WHS and am currently a JungleDisk Plus user so would like to stay – however it looks like I’m going to be forced to look at other options.

Definitely keen on a pkg for QNAP NAS boxes. I’d use it with half a dozen clients.

Is a QNAP version being worked on?

Any news on this? I am looking for a ReadyNAS plugin. Is it still on the roadmap or do you think they is no money to be made with all the users we are?

I will appreciate a real answer like:
    - It’s coming in 2 months
    - Don’t count on it

    Thanks
