We made 3.05 available on this site earlier this month, introducing one-way sync, improved backup vault cleanup, and a number of additional improvements. After the release, we continued to get feedback (some from customers already running 3.05) that pointed to a few more items needing our attention.
We don’t like subjecting our customers to overly-frequent version changes, but in this case we felt it best to knock out a few more improvements and get them into the hands of our users. So today, we’re releasing Version 3.06 for each of our product editions. In it, you’ll find even better backup vault cleanup performance, optimized uploading of backup vault database files, and a number of other improvements.
For a complete list of changes, please review our release notes. You can download the new version of your edition from our Download Center.
For the Mac and Windows customers who prefer upgrading with the automatic update feature, we anticipate switching this on for 3.06 later this week (you can select “Check for Updates” from Jungle Disk’s Help Menu to see if the new version is available).

“We don’t like subjecting our customers to overly-frequent version changes” is completely backwards
I feel the developers should release well-tested updates as frequently as is practical, and I really really hope you’re not holding back updates just to avoid bothering me.
If this is about automatic update notifications then perhaps you could tweak the mechanism very slightly to enable you to mark updates as “notify” or “silent” – then you can push less significant updates without distracting the user with notifications.
P.S. What’s up with the new icon? I liked the old one; the new one is just a couple of squares and a rectangle… In fact I wondered whether it was a draw bug of some sort before realising that it’s really the new icon.

Will there be a release of this for JungleDisk Workgroup Edition. The 3.05 version never got detected by the automatic updater.

I agree with Roman, the previous icon was a lot better.

Byron– When we saw 3.06 on the horizon, we decided not to switch on the automatic updates for 3.05. We did switch them on for 3.06 last night, so your Workgroup Edition should offer you the update soon (if it hasn’t already).

Another vote for the old icon. Most other icons aren’t as large, and the last one looked much better.
You shouldn’t change these too often, people are reassured by continuity. ( Yes its superficial. )

JungleDisk activity is much easier to see with the new system tray icon. Thanks for following up on that user request.

Constantly blinking the icon to indicate activity puts you into a tricky position: some users don’t want an icon that’s blinking at them all the time, while others want to be able to see the indication easily when they need to.
You end up having to find a very fine balance between visibility and subtlety – one that is bound to work only on some screens under some lighting conditions etc.
Why not just bring back the old icon, and have the red area change color to, say, yellow, for the _entire_ duration of an activity? This way the fact that JungleDisk is active is very visible, and yet there’s no bright flashing in the tray area.

Got to agree about the icon. It’s gone from the best looking icon in my system tray to the worst. Bring back the old icon and maybe change the blinking red to another colour instead of it going from red to red, go from red to yellow while there’s activity.

I upgraded to version 3.06 and now Windows is telling me “Windows did not pass genuine validation”. This is with Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium.

Sorry about this…but I don’t like that new tray icon either. It’s very confusing. I load Jungle disk on multiple PCs at home and I try to train my family to check the tray icons for updates, errors, etc. I have to teach them a new icon with each release and I don’t even understand what this one indicates.
Although many of the enhancements and fixes seem to be behind the scenes and very beneficial, the user interface is just as important. Thanks for your support.

I run the updater from the desktop client, it only gave me the option to remove, so i did so thinking it would install the newer version of the server edition afterward, it didn’t. Just had to re-download, re-install and reconfigure my backups

You mention “optimized uploading of backup vault database files”. However, for me, the situation is worse even than with 3.04. In one of my backups, with only two small files added, the database upload size was more than 140MB.
The old (2.x) backup was much more efficient for me.

I think I’m the only one that likes the new icon
It’s not pretty but it’s very clear and easy to interpret, which I like.

Let me add a few things to these later versions of 3 from a Mac user POV.
I don’t have drives on my desktop. I get it. I DON’T want to be told EVERY time that I must change my settings. I’m quite aware what drives I have. I don’t need the modal alert box annoying the crap out of me. If there’s a switch, it’s not in the UI from what I’ve seen. Very odd and hugely annoying that I can’t get through a boot with JD bugging me.
The configuration window doesn’t respect the top menu bar. Jarring, but not high priority.
I would like to have an option to turn off the pulsing icon, too, but again, low priority.
Basically, I hope you guys look at how MobileMe disks work from a user-experience level. It’s seamless.

Hi guys,
Quick question regards how JungleDisk works…:
Is it like DropBox in that files are also saved locally, but then sync’d to JungleDisk, or are the files only kept on the JungleDisk server so you have to pull them down whenever you want to do something with them?
DropBox doesn’t do segmenting / groups / permissions within an account, so we’re looking at moving over / or using both for different reasons, but I can’t seem to find a clear answer for our use case…
Ideally we’d like to have daily working files on a local machine and then synced for backups / redundancy (like dropbox), using the permissions feature where relevant (jungledisk); and then we’d put large amounts of data (so backup files, old DB’s, old email files, media etc etc) onto JungleDisk as well (but that would essentially be off-site storage and backups where we might need to access the file once a year…)
Can you help / point me to a really clear explanation of how the data works with the local filesystem, and how the backup app works / syncs stuff…
Thanks in advance
