Jungle Disk Releases Version 3.04

As 2009 winds to a close, we’re happy to release another set of improvements and bug fixes to all four Jungle Disk Editions. Many thanks go to our excellent user base for sharing their experiences and suggestions with us.

The complete set of changes can be found in the release notes, and we’ve turned on automatic updates for Mac and Windows users. Linux users (and those who prefer to update manually) can visit our downloads page. Note that we didn’t release 3.03 for general availability, so most of you will upgrade from 3.02 to 3.04.

All of us at Jungle Disk want to wish all of you a warm and happy holiday season, and a joyous New Year. We look forward to meeting your cloud storage needs for many years to come!

    Hi there,

So far, every time JD tells me there’s an update available & I click ‘Update’, it requires that I shut down ALL my processes – including Explorer & occasionally the installer itself!

The only way that I can install the update is to use Task Manager, kill most of the active processes, install JD’s new version & then restart.

    I’m using Windows 7.

Can you please confirm what you are doing regarding the recent S3 price reductions? It appears that the Jungle Disk Plus charges have not been updated yet.

There is a thread on the support “forums” with a post from JD a week ago stating that an announcement is due “soon”.

I’d like to start a very large backup over the holiday period – will you have an announcement before Christmas?

If I cancel Jungle Disk Plus will I be able to take advantage of the new prices immediately as I’d be uploading straight to the S3 services and be billed by Amazon directly?

Must say I’m very disappointed in the delay this is taking – any particular reason why? I don’t remember previous price updates taking this long.

While I’m happy to see that JD is being actively maintained, 3 updates in the last 4 weeks is a bit much.

I maintain 2 servers, 1 home server, 5 laptops, and a development PC for myself and my small (one man) business. I have had to update all of these 3 times. Each time a reboot is required. This has added up to a fair amount of installing and rebooting.

Is there any way to eliminate the need to reboot? I have JD installed on deployed web servers and rebooting is something I try to avoid. I can only reboot during certain hours and it affects my uptime.

Thanks for the great product though!

The Server Edition of Jungle Disk does not required a reboot to update, nor does the Simply Backup edition.

The Desktop/Workgroup editions do, because they use a file system driver for the network drive feature. Unfortunately Windows doesn’t provide any way to update filesystem drivers without a reboot.

    Hi Guys,

First I have to say that I LOVE Jungle Disk! And, like others here, I’m frustrated with having to take the time to reboot my system every time there’s an update. I understand that a reboot is required to replace system drivers, but how about a simple option to “Install at Next Reboot”? Then I could start the update and forget about it, knowing that tomorrow morning it’ll be up to date, and my backups will still happen in the meantime.

    Thanks!

John – generally it’s safe to install the update and delay the reboot until needed. Your backups will continue as-is even without a reboot. A reboot MAY be needed for the network drive to function properly.

Since version 3.01 every time I upgrade it tells me that jungledisk and Explorer are open
    I am using windows 7 64 bit

I would expect it to deal with it and not expect me to go to task manager and kill exploer to do upgrade

As for reboot I agree I hate it as well (2 laptops, 3 PC and 1 server)

I also have 3 customers I installed it for them and they get crazy from it and want to stop using jungledisk.

    @John
I set my servers to reboot once / week on Sundays around 4am
Usually that takes care of the JD updates. Even if you skip a couple and do one update a month, with automated reboot there’s no hassle and sofar no issues.

    Hi JD,

I am still using 2.10. I have tried updating every time a new version came out, including with the current 3.0.4. It simply never worked, unless i am supposed to wait until I gow a beard while watching the Setup Wizard install.
The status never even starts and i have to kill the process.

What is the best way to upgrade? There is no entry in the online manual about this. do I need to keep JD running, do I need to switch it off first, will it do it automtcially, do I need to switch of other processes as suggested above, do I overwrite existing files/folders, do I need to choose a new folder/name, will i keep my bucket and ack-up settings etc etc etc.

    Back to 2.10 now..
    Cheers, Harry

    Happy new year.

I just wanted to say that the new version (3.04) is quite buggy. When you highlight a folder or file in the drive assigned (J:??); the program starts to download for no good reason. It slows everything down and if you try to cancel this process through the gui….. the whole machine hangs and you have to reboot the whole machine by force.

I say a fully tested release is much better than releasing minor versions one after another. And lets not forget the bugs

    Thanks
