I am running XP SP3 and using the 3.0 Beta version 2.94a. I had about 1.5 GB of data to upload via sync. I set it up this morning and let it run. When I got home from work it had loaded close to 6GB of data.

I checked the online disk and it is showing 5 to 6 copies of the same file in each folder. I canceled the sync process in the desktop monitor. Is this a known bug? Should I wait for a future release to start using the sync feature?

I was just getting ready to sing up with SugarSync (despite their lack of linux support) when I found out about the sync functionality in 3.0. I am so looking forward to being able to consolidate my backup and sync needs with JungleDisk.

How long until the official release. Hopefully, all these bugs will be worked out by then. I’ll not begin deleting all the excess files.

Testing the 3.0 Beta today .. I hope this corrects some of the Version Control Issues We have seen in the Past.

@Seb – the sync function will do what you’re looking for – it’s actually bi-directional.

I am using the Workgroup beta release primarily to use jungle disk as an online disc (i.e. not for back up but as my workgroup’s primary network drive) and am trying to figure out how the sync function works. I want to sync all of the folders that are on the jungle disk to the local drives on the PCs of all of the various users in our firm – the purpose being to let us access the network drive when offline and also to provide a local backup. Does the sync work this way round or is it primarily to sync from the local drive up to the jungle disk? I am running Windows.

@Gary – on Windows & Mac there is a background service, so the Monitor app doesn’t need to be running (although sync icons won’t show up on Windows unless it is).
On Linux, there is only a foreground app, so it does need to be running.

One thing isn’t entirely clear, although I can probably figure it out.

Does the desktop app have to be running for sync to occur? Is Linux any different from WinXP in that regard?

Esp. with Linux, things get a little fuzzy when I quit the desktop app. If I have questions once the fog clears enough to see them, I’ll post them here.

I found an error: Syncing is not possible with these existing folders on my online disk having names with characters like “ä” “ö” “ü” (often used german character, other languages as well). Jungle Disk handles these folders everywhere correctly, except in sync configuration. When chosing the existing “/Büro”-folder it changes the name to weired characters and creates a new folder on my online disk with this wrong name.
Please fix this! Alex

@Steve – 2.93a is the current beta release. 3.0 will be the final release.
