The Jungle Disk 2.5 beta testing is going well, but we’re not quite done. We’re planning one more beta release in the next few weeks, and there are going to be two new features for you to try.
The first new feature is European support for Jungle Disk Plus. As many of you know, Jungle Disk Plus is built on the Amazon EC2 service, which to date has only been available in the US. Today, Amazon launched EC2 in Europe and we’ve added support in 2.5 for Jungle Disk Plus features including upload resume and block-level updates. There is no additional charge – European users who are already Jungle Disk Plus subscribers will now be able to use them on their EU buckets in addition to the US. For our European users who aren’t Jungle Disk Plus subscribers, there’s now a great reason to sign up. It’s just $1 per month!
The second feature is one we’ve been promising for a while – native filesystem integration on Windows. Jungle Disk 2.5 will now ship with an optional filesystem driver that allows us to integrate directly with the filesystem, bypassing WebDAV. In the short term, we expect this change to improve compatibility for the drive mapping feature and reduce the number of “Drive Mapping Failed” errors that result from the Microsoft WebDAV service. In the long term, we will use this new filesystem integration method to enhance performance and add additional features. Oh, and did we mention – this now means that drive mapping works on Windows 2000 as well! Mac users, we haven’t fogotten about you. We’re still planning to offer native filesystem integration on Mac as well in a future release. WebDAV on Mac is much more reliable than on Windows or Linux, so we decided to address those platforms first.
Jungle Disk 2.5 will be a free upgrade for all users when released, look out for a beta release with these new features soon!

Is a migration from US to EU buckets possible with Jungle Disk 2.5?

There is no automatic migration – data needs to be re-uploaded to EU buckets.

If we are already using an EU bucket can it be upgraded to use JDplus without re-uploading again?

Yes BUT until you create a filesystem driver for Mac, we’re all stuck on losing our modification dates on files which is HORRIBLE for those of us that index picutures by date…so please still keep this as a priority. You guys are doing a great job, thanks very much for all your investment!

Now since Europe EC2 is available, is it in the plans to offer syncing between your US & EU buckets, thug not having to upload all of your data separately twice from your computer. Thus if you backup to your US bucket, the US bucket would sync with the EU bucket without having the need for your computer to upload the data for a second time to the EU bucket.

@Brian – Yes, you can just turn on the features.
@Chuck – We’re aware of that issue, and it’s one of the main reasons we’re still working on the Mac native integration.

1 – How is it possible to create a EU bucket ?
2 – Then will we be charged in Euros ?

Wow, so does this new file system integration will eliminate restrictions of WebDAV, like inability to run programs or batch scripts from Jungle drive?

Hi there,
I’m having troubles with office documents on the jungle disk. Mostly Word documents.
When i try to open a Word document thats on jungle disk, the pc freezes.
ctrl-alt-del is the answer to stop this.
When i open that same document from a local drive, all goes well.
I have only tested this with XP pc’s and office 2003/07

Does “native filesystem integration on Windows” mean that the mapped drive will no longer give used/free space that mirrors the C: drive? If so, when can we expect this? I’ve been holding off on rolling out JD (and possibly the Workgroup version) to my users as the used/free space thing is confusing.

@Mac – This can be done in the current version under Add Bucket in the configuration dialog (enable advanced options)
@Alexandroid – Yes
@Simon – That can occur on some systems due to issues with WebDAV. Once the 2.49c beta is released please try it and let us know if it fixes your issue.
@Jason – Yes.

How about Cloud Files integration? Do you have any ETA on that?

What about being able to use Jungle Disk as a system service without using srvany or a third party tool?

Running the new Beta on my IBM Thinkpad T-41 and JungleDisk as a Service. The T-41 no longer enters Hibernate when I close the cover. The power settings still specify Hibernate on Cover Close but nothing happens when Jungledisk as a service is running and I close the cover. I went back to 2.10a and Hibernate on cover close works as expected.
