Jungle Disk 1.35b for Windows

Some Windows users are reporting an issue with high CPU usage after reboot when installing the new version of Jungle Disk. We’ve found the cause of the issue and have released an updated version that fixes the problem.

If you’re running the Windows version of Jungle Disk, please upgrade to 1.35b from the download page.

Mac and Linux versions are not affected and remain at 1.35a.

Jungle Disk 1.35 Released

We had planned to have 1.30 be the last beta release for Jungle Disk, but we’ve added some fairly big features recently and want to make sure they get fully tested before we take off the beta tag. The major new features in this version:

  • Support for Volume Shadow Copy on Windows to backup in-use and locked files
This is a new option that can be enabled in the Automatic Backup configuration.  It works on Windows XP and later. Note that on Mac and Linux we’ve always been able to backup in-use files.
  • Basic offline detection support
Jungle Disk now detects when your Internet connection isn’t available on startup, or when you get disconnected. When no Internet connection is available, Jungle Disk now places itself in an “offline” mode. In offline mode, any queued background operations are put on hold until the Internet connection is restored - previously they would slowly error out and be discarded.  Currently you can’t access any data in offline mode (even if cached), but we may change that in the future.
  • Directory update consolidation and caching
Jungle Disk now caches directory listings in memory, which improves performance significantly for large directories with several thousand files. In addition, directory changes are batched for a period of time and sent in a single PUT request. This significantly reduces the number of PUT requests required for some operations, such as renaming or deleting a directory, or for backing up directories with large numbers of small files. Now that Amazon charges partially based on number of requests, this feature will help reduce your monthly bill.
  • New Consistency Check feature (under the HELP menu)
While helping users track down issues with Jungle Disk, we’ve noticed a few situations where the directory marker files can end up in a bad state - when this occurs, directories that are being backed up by automatic backup may not show up in the disk, even though the files are present. We’ve also recently fixed an issue with automatic backup of Mac resource forks that caused file types to show up in Finder incorrectly. The Consistency Check feature fixes both of these issues, and we recommend all users run it once after upgrading to the new version.

You can find a full list of the new features and fixes in the release notes.

As always, the new version is available on the download page.
