We’ve released an update to Jungle Disk with some useful new features and a few crash fixes for Mac users. You can get it now from the Jungle Disk download page. A full list of changes is in the Release Notes.
The key new features are the ability to exclude lists of files and directories from automatic backups, and an editor that lets you modify existing backup jobs so that you don’t have to recreate them to make minor changes.
The exclusion list is really handy. To backup user directories on my Mac at home, I previously had to set up several backup jobs for different directories, to keep from getting things included that I didn’t want. Now I just set up a single backup job for /Users/, and exclude the directories “*cache*”, “.Trash”, “Logs” and the file “.DS_Store”.
Also new in this version is automatic crash reporting for the Mac and Windows builds (with user consent). We’ve been fortunate to have relatively few crashes in the application during the beta, but to ensure that we are getting to “release” quality, we want to make sure any remaining issues are caught and tracked down. The Mac crash reporting uses Smart Crash Reports and you will be given the option to install it the first time you run the new version if you don’t have it already. Both versions give you the option to upload a crash report should a crash occur and will show you exactly the data to be uploaded. Providing your e-mail address is optional but will allow us to contact you if we need to test a fix. If you do get a crash, feel free to post in our support forums in addition to submitting the crash report.

Seriously, this is the coolest tool. I am helping a client archive an old AS/400 system and I’m using JungleDisk to offload gigs of data until the client has a permanent storage facility built out. Love it, love it.
